WOMEN IN REAL ESTATE: HOW THEY BECOME HOMEOWNERS DESPITE INEQUALITY
π STATISTICS: MORE WOMEN ARE BUYING REAL ESTATE
According to a 2024 study by the broker Empruntis, conducted among 13,000 people, women accounted for 19% of borrowers. While men still lead in property purchases, the gap is gradually closing.
π BUYING SOLO: NEARLY EQUAL SHARES
One in four real estate transactions is made by single buyers. Among them, 54% are men and 46% are women. However, when considering purchases made by couples, the decision-making share of women has increased over the past five years.
π° WOMEN INVEST MORE BUT EARN LESS
The average loan amount for women is slightly higher than for men (β¬167,493 vs. β¬162,164), but their monthly income is β¬200 lower (β¬3,273 vs. β¬3,473). At the same time, women contribute a significantly higher personal investment in their property purchases.
π WOMEN PAY MORE FOR REAL ESTATE
On average, both men and women buy older apartments of about 70 mΒ², but women pay β¬12,000 more for the same type of property.
π€ WHY DO WOMEN PAY MORE?
The price difference is linked to different approaches to purchasing:
β Women prepare more thoroughly for the transaction β They contribute a larger initial deposit β They are more cautious and thoughtful
However, they also face gender inequalities:
π« Wage disparities π« Less stable job contracts π« More involuntary part-time work π« More often become sole caregivers after a divorce
π WHATβS NEXT?
Despite these challenges, the number of women becoming homeowners is increasing. The trend toward greater female participation in real estate may accelerate in the coming years.
